College Year Programme
This is a long term study
programme that combines extended English language
development with career training and academic preparation,
leading to internationally recognised qualifications.
You can choose to study for 20+, 30+ or 40+ weeks
for 15 (Standard) or 25 (Intensive) hours per week.
A clear language component throughout the course
is designed to help you develop fluency dramatically
and attain an in-depth sensitivity to the cultural
and social nuances of the English language which
is impossible to achieve on a short course or
by studying in your own country.
Your own individual study plan will depend on
your particular needs and interests, level of
English, start date and course duration. You will
work on vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and
the four key skills of speaking, listening, reading
and writing, as well as effective learning strategies
that put you in control of your own progress.
A minimum level of English is required.
So that you gain the most from your chosen course
you will have a full placement test on arrival.
This will ensure that you will be placed in the
class most suitable to your own level. Once you
reach an Intermediate level, you can mix and match
modules according to your level of English and
length of stay. Subjects and outcomes may vary
according to location and time of the year.
Some optional modules.
General English; Communication and Culture; English
for Academic Purposes; Business English; Information
Technology (IT).
Optional exams and qualifications.
TOEFL, IELTS, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Certificates, University of Cambridge Business
English Certificate, Microsoft Office Users Specialist
Certificates.
In many centres, it will also be possible to
opt into examination preparation lessons leading
to the Cambridge University Certificates:
FCE (First Certificate in English), CAE (Certificate
in Advanced English), CPE (Certificate of Proficiency
in English) or BEC (University of Cambridge Business
English Certificate).
